Homemade toothpaste
Although most toothpastes do prevent against tooth decay they also do contain some nasty chemicals such as artificial sweeteners and foaming agents like sodium laurel sulphate which are actually corrosive and can damage enamel.
Fluoride is also a common ingredient, has shown to slow and reduce decay. However fluroride displaces Iodine, which is now becoming a common deficiency in the Western world and causing all sorts of thyroid problems.
Toothpaste is never meant to be swallowed (read the packet) as it can harmful the to gut and irrigate those with with condition such as Chron’s, coeliacs and irritable bowel syndromes.
This homemade toothpaste is harmless when swallowed which makes it a gentle yet effective choice for children and even babies.
Ingredients
(I only make about a shot glass full at a time, it lasts about 1-2 weeks)
1 tablespoon of baking soda
1 table spoon of coconut oil
A few drops of peppermint oil
1/4 teaspoon of stevia
Mix all ingredients together and you are done! Add as much to your toothbrush as you would any other tooth paste.
The baking soda as well as being alkalising will healp to remove stains and whiten teeth. Coconut oil is antimicrobial which mean it kills germs and detoxes the mouth. Peppermint oil gives it a nice aroma and taste, and as you may well know aids in digestion. The stevia will give the tooth paste that sweet taste but also many studies have shown that stevia not only prevents dental carries but can assist in healing them!
I hope you enjoy!
